Week 14 Reflection

Assalamualaikum and good day. It’s the last week of the first semester and the final class for Computer in Education as well. Dr. Fariza did an explanation on how to create a table for our future students’ school subjects and their respective scores using Microsoft Excel. I’ve been wonderering how to do it before but never had the time to learn independently. I created a list of 40 fictional students with random names and marks for Bahasa Melayu, English, Math, History, Biology, Physics, Art and so forth. I’m impressed with the convenience it offers, which I never had the chance to explore. It’s easy to use if you follow the instructions and fill in the details accurately. The most practical and interesting part were it would summarize all the scores and grades, so you don’t have to spend plentiful of time to calculate them all by yourself. The key is to insert the right formula, as told by Dr. Fariza and her guide in GE1155 forum. The class ended and I felt relieved, yet sadness kicked in as I left the lab with my friends. I will miss the class and Dr. Fariza very much. I’d say that she is one of the best lecturers I’ve met so far. Kind, caring and considerate. That’s how I see her.

Thank you so much for reading.

Week 13 Reflection

Assalamualaikum. Last night, I slept up late to finish the presentation for the report. I felt terribly tired but had to go to the computer lab to present the report and video alongside my friends. Nadia and I arrived a bit late at the lab. Dr. Fariza is already there. Feeling worried to enter due to her impression on late comers, I braced myself and entered the lab. I realized that I was just thinking about it too much. As I tried to reach my thumb drive in my bag pocket, Dr. Fariza announced to the whole class that something urgent came up.  She unexpectedly had to attend a compulsory faculty meeting. I was actually quite excited to present the video to her and my friends but I understand that she’s busy.  She told us to record ourselves presenting the report using Presentme and upload the ready-made video on Dropbox instead. My friends and I went outside and find a suitable spot to do the recording. The good thing is, everybody did their parts just as planned. What’s left to do was to upload the reflections, group and individual assignments on Weebly and Dropbox.

Week 12 Reflection

Assalamualaikum and greetings to everyone. So many weeks has passed. It feels so short as I was busy with plenty of things, mainly assignments and trying to balance out everything. So, we have the storyboard and it’s time to make the video. My friends and I actually planned to make a voice-over, in which we replace the voice of movie characters and talk about our topic instead. I thought it would be interesting yet funny at the same time. Sadly, the plan was cancelled because we couldn’t find any suitable scenes to act in. So, we decided to act. I wasn’t exactly sure how it’s going to turn out but hoped for the best to all the members including myself. It turned out better than expected when all members managed to add up some interesting ideas on the spot. The dialogues, props and settings were not extravagant or anything, but we involved ourselves greatly to create an informative yet comedic video. Although I had no idea in the slightest on how to entertain people with jokes, Aishah,  Amelia and Nadia did a great job with that. So, a round of applause to them. I think this is one of the best memories I’ve had with my friends throughout this course.

Thank you! :D

Week 11 Reflection

Assalamualaikum and hello. Today, Dr. Fariza gave us a task in which we need to discuss the main elements of multimedia. After searching about it in the internet for a while, everyone was asked to post their findings on said elements in GE1155 forum and view each other’s posts later. The elements are text, graphic, video, animation and sound. Then, Dr. Fariza gave us another task, which is to create a video on the topic Thinking Skills and ICT. Amelia, Nadia and I began to ‘discuss’ the storyboard on Google Docs. Although we did discuss it, it turned out hilarious as Amelia wrote in such funny manner. I tried so hard to hold my laughter and was glad that I didn’t burst out laughing. In the end, we finished the storyboard with the introduction, contents and closing scene. Thank you!

Week 10 Reflection

Assalamualaikum and good day. We went to the computer lab as usual. Dr. Fariza started the lesson by teaching us how to make brochures using Microsoft Publisher. This is a good opportunity I should not miss. I’ll bet it’ll be really useful someday. She explained as detailed as possible on how to create the brochure with the right and balanced elements such as texts, colours, shapes and images. She even demonstrated how to do it in the slides in front. I found a suitable brochure template in the program itself, and ask for other members’ opinions about it. We began designing the brochure and put some contents in it, according to the slides presentation. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to finish the brochure in the lab so we saved it in the thumb drive to finish it the next day.

 Week 9 Reflection

Assalamualaikum. This week, Dr. Fariza has assigned all the groups with a report writing task based on the responses we collected from the questionnaire. So, I distributed the parts for each members. I am the one who’ll be doing section C, while others shall do other sections. Honestly, I do not feel like being the leader. When I was in leadership camps back in Form 6, I was always the one who is being lead by others. Even now, I still don’t feel like I’m suited to be one because of some skills that I lack in. But, I want to change because I’ll most probably be a teacher in the near future. This fact made me anxious. Enough of my babbling. After done with the report, all we need to do is upload it on our Weebly e-portfolio. That’s about it, I guess.

Thank you! :)

Week 8 Reflection

Assalamualaikum.  It’s week 8 and my group needed to write a report based on the survey conducted on Thinking Skills and ICT. Truthfully, I got a little worried and wondered whether I would be able to write a good one or not. Then, I remembered that I have my group members to assist me with it so it won’t be that bad.  I should perhaps be more confident about my abilities and skills. Confidence issues aside, a problem came up. During the class, Dr Fariza did an explanation on how to calculate the mean of the data. After taking a good look of ours, we found out that the form that we had worked on could not be used for data analyzing because we didn’t provide any scale-type questions, which are required to gather the mean of the data. She said the mean can be calculated manually. Sadly, I’m no math expert. I’m not even good at math to begin with. There’s no other quick resolve other than to start over. So, later that night I changed the questions into the correct format and the worst part is that I had to collect the responses again. Way to go, me. The good part is the whole members managed to stay positive and not panic over this ‘tiny’ problem. This made me happy being part of the group.

Thank you.

Week 7 Reflection

Assalamualaikum and good day. I was informed that Dr Fariza went to Japan to settle some work of hers. The class was cancelled due to that but we still went to the computer lab. This week we’ve finally completed our survey on Thinking Skills and ICT although it’s supposed to be finished the week before. But, our work is not done yet. We needed to go to GE1155 forum and fill up our friends’ survey as well. Answering various surveys of the whole courses involved in this assignment was not an easy task considering there are quite a high number of us. This includes the Special Education, Sport and Recreation and of course TESL students. Every group kept posting their survey and I didn’t know which one I should do first. But it sure was exciting viewing the number of responses we’ve gotten from everyone. My group managed to get 46 responses all together and I thought that it’s quite an achievement. So why not return the favour, right? Here comes the challenging part. After done with collecting responses, it’s time to analyze the data gathered in Google Form and to do that we need to find some information about it from the internet. Well..I guess that’s it.

Week 6 Reflection

Assalamualaikum and hello, everyone. There’s not much to write in this week’s reflection. Me and the rest of the class went to the computer lab for this week’s lesson. Unfortunately, we were informed that Dr Fariza couldn’t attend the class due to an illness. I felt sorry and hoped for her to get well.  We still needed to work on our research objectives based on the given topics and build a questionnaire using Google Form. Luckily, we were provided with some good tips and tutorials on how to create a good survey. Although my group members did discuss a few things here and there, we also played a lot in the lab. Then, I realized that we got plenty of work to do. Yikes!

Week 5 Reflection

Assalamualaikum and good evening.  In week 5, there’s class as usual. Dr Fariza taught us about CASPER.  I immediately thought about Casper the ghost. Nope, it’s actually an acronym for Contrast, Alignment, Simplicity, Proximity, Emphasis and Repetition. All of these aspects are applied when creating a comprehensible yet interesting Powerpoint Presentation.

  • Contrast refers to the use of colours, images and fonts. We don’t want to use a light blue background colour and a white font, do we? Instead, we should use a background which contrasts the colour of the font, just to ensure that it’s readable and attractive too. Like a light pinkish background and a black font.
  • The next aspect, alignment simply says that the texts and images should be..well, aligned or arranged properly. I remember Dr Fariza told us to ‘justify’ our text and images in each slides. She’s right, because they’ll look nicer and neater.
  • The third one is simplicity. As simple as it sounds, keep everything simple but informative. Don’t put too much text in one slide because many people, including myself would be bored to see a jumble of texts muddled up together.
  • On to the next one. Proximity, meaning nearness or closeness is all about arranging the right distance between your text and images, or between a text and another text.
  • To emphasize is to give importance to the main idea and topic.
  • The last one, repetition is to.. I don’t remember this one very well. My guess for this aspect is to repeat the use of same colors and images when needed to do so.  That’s about it. The lesson turned out quite fun and I look forward for the next class.

Thank you to whoever kind and patient enough to read through all of this.
